The AFO Orthosis can be used for people who have types of dorsal or anterior nerve injury. They are also useful in treating Charcot conditions and Dropfoot. ActiveForever is pleased to offer you the AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) in the Swedish, Rigid, Leaf Spring or Semi-Rigid Models. An orthosis is a device that is applied externally to a part of the body to correct deformity, improve function, or relieve symptoms of a disease by supporting or assisting the musculo-neuro-skeletal system. This can be worn in a shoe.
The Ankle Foot Orthosis semi-rigid or rigid provides functional alignment for flaccid (weak) extremities and resistance to mild extensor spasticity. Spasticity is a disorder of the body's motor system in which certain muscles are continuously contracted. This contraction causes stiffness or tightness of the muscles and may interfere with gait, movement, and speech.
The 40AFO (semi-rigid) and the 60AFO (Rigid) provide mediolateral support for ankle instability. The Leaf Spring is set in 8° dorsiflexion to provide spring assist during ambulation while offering a low profile option for patients not requiring a full AFO. The open heel and calf design of the Swedish AFO limits skin breakdown, offers a cooler alternative to standard AFOs, and allows the brace to fit into any type of shoe.
Rigid and Semi-Rigid: The Rigid and Semi-Rigid Ankle Foot Orthosis provides functional alignment for flaccid (weak) extremities, resistance to mild extensor spasticity and it also provides mediolateral support for ankle instability.
Leaf Spring: The Leaf Spring Ankle Foot Orthosis provides functional alignment for flaccid extremities, and resistance to mild extensor spasticity. The Leaf Spring is set in 8° dorsiflexion to provide spring assist during ambulation while offering a low profile option for patients not requiring a full AFO.
Swedish: The Swedish AFO provides static dorsiflexion assistance, lateral foot and ankle stability for flaccid (weak) extremities, and resistance to mild extensor spasticity. The open heel and calf design of the Swedish AFO limits skin breakdown, offers a cooler alternative to standard AFOs, and allows the brace to fit into any type of shoe. Made of polyethylene, the calf portion of the Swedish AFO is thicker for rigidity, and padded for patient comfort. The foot plate is extended, and can be trimmed and spot heated for patient customization.
