What is TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) Therapy?
TENS is defined by the American Physical Therapy Association as the application of electrical current through skin for pain control. TENS is a very safe, non-invasive method for treating both acute and chronic pain. In addition to those with pacemakers, TENS should never be used by pregnant women or anyone with epilepsy due to possible complications. Talk to your doctor or therapist before starting any sort of TENS therapy program.

I once received a much more expensive TENS unit as part of my physical therapy, but insurance would not cover it and I had to return it. I was pleased to find this unit actually offers more features for a much lower price, and I now use it almost daily! For those like me who have had multi-level spinal fusion, the TENS unit provides the only means to work out painful spasms in muscles that can no longer be used and stretched -- the muscle contraction and relaxation is the key. I also use the TENS unit to interrrupt nerve pain in arm and shoulder muscles that are too weak to "work out", reducing the pain enough to allow me to sleep.
